Chef Jean Georges Vongerichten

As one of the world’s most famous chefs, Jean Georges Vongerichten is well known for his exceptional culinary talents. However, his skills extend far beyond the kitchen. This successful restaurateur and savvy businessman is responsible for the operation and success of a constellation of three and four star restaurants worldwide.

Born and raised on the outskirts of Strasbourg in Alsace, France, Jean Georges Vongerichten has always enjoyed food, and everything related to it. He began his training in a work-study program at Auberge de l’lll as an apprentice to Chef Paul Haeberlin. He then went on to work under Paul Bocuse and Master Chef Louis Outhier at L’Oasis in southern France. With this impressive three star Michelin background, Jean Georges Vongerichten traveled to Asia and continued his training at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, as well as at the Meridien Hotel in Singapore and the Mandarin Hotel in Hong Kong.

Eastern Influences

During his travels through Asia is discovered a love for the exotic and aromatic flavours of the East. He had soon abandoned his more traditional use of meat stocks and creams. Instead his new methods would feature the intense flavours and textures from vegetable juices, fruit essences, light broths, and herbal vinaigrette’s. Jean-Georges’ culinary vision has redefined industry standards and revolutionised the way we eat. Still today Jean-Georges’ dishes are very much influenced by his travels across Asia and many other countries.

His Restaurants

Jean-Georges has opened a number of new restaurants including The Inn at Pound Ridge by Jean-Georges, ABC Kitchen, ABC Cocina and Simply Chicken at Madison Square Garden, as well as Eden Rock and Sand Bar in St. Barths. More recently, Jean-Georges ventured to Roppongi Hills to open JG Tokyo, a 14-counter seat restaurant. Visit Jean-georges.com for a full list of all his restaurants around the globe.
